Who will power global consumption growth over the next decade?

The answer points firmly to India.

On the afternoon of July 2, MIO International Exhibition co-hosted an India Market Briefing titled "Overseas Hangzhou – BRICS South Asia Countries Exchange & Matching Session" together with the Consulate General of India in Shanghai. The event brought together representatives from government authorities including Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Hangzhou Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, industry associations and enterprises in Hangzhou. Attendees discussed new opportunities for China-India economic and trade cooperation, officially kicking off the 2026 HOMELIFE India Show.

At the event, Shri Pratik Mathur, Consul General of India in Shanghai, stated that as one of the world’s major fastest-growing economies, India boasts enormous market potential. It has continuously optimized its investment environment in recent years and maintained rapid growth in artificial intelligence, technological innovation and other sectors. He expressed the hope to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Chinese enterprises to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

At the event, MIO International Exhibition officially announced that the HOMELIFE India Show, absent for six years, will make a grand comeback this December. Supported by more than 20 leading Indian industry associations, the exhibition is expected to draw over 16,000 professional buyers. Multiple Indian chambers of commerce delivered video remarks conveying their anticipation for the show’s return. They look forward to leveraging this platform to deepen cooperation between Chinese and Indian enterprises and deliver mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.

Official backing, industry-wide response and the return of the exhibition platform send positive signals of deepening China-India economic and trade cooperation, making India a key overseas market destination for a growing number of Chinese enterprises.

So why are an increasing number of enterprises regarding India as the most worthy overseas market to expand into over the next decade?

The answer lies in the continuous market dividends unleashed by India.

Trillion-Dollar Domestic Demand Surge

Breaking Down India’s Core Market Advantages

1.Unrivaled Demographic Dividend with Surging Young Consumption Power

India’s total population has exceeded 1.43 billion, ranking first in the world. With a median age of merely 28.7 years old, it stands as the world’s youngest major economy. The country now boasts over 210 million core households. The prevalence of small-sized families has greatly boosted purchasing frequency of small home goods, kitchenware and daily necessities, driving steady growth in rigid demand consumption.

Meanwhile, India’s middle-class population hit 432 million in 2025 and is projected to surpass 700 million by 2030. Residents’ disposable income grows at an annual rate of 5.8%, driving consumption upgrading from basic necessities to high-quality, aesthetic home products.

2.Rapid Economic Growth, Ranked Among the World’s Top Consumer Markets

India’s GDP growth rate holds steady at 7.7% in 2026, with private consumption accounting for over 55% of GDP, making domestic demand the backbone of its economy. Total household consumption in India reached approximately USD 2.6 trillion in 2025, nearly doubling within a decade. Authoritative institutions forecast that India will overtake Japan to become the world’s third-largest consumer market in 2026.

India’s retail market size hit USD 1.06 trillion in 2024 and is projected to exceed USD 3.5 trillion by 2034, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13%. The home and daily necessities segment grows far faster than the overall retail sector.

3.Accelerating Urbanization & Fully Integrated Online and Offline Channels

India’s urbanization rate rose to 37% in 2025, with its urban permanent population surpassing 530 million. Six major metropolitan areas have formed stable consumer clusters, while tier-2 and tier-3 cities serve as the main driver of consumption growth. Digital infrastructure has reached full maturity, with 185.8 billion UPI transactions recorded in a single year, enabling nationwide digital payments.

The online penetration rate of home goods has climbed from less than 10% to 26%. Social e-commerce and instant retail have fully unlocked the lower-tier market. Imported goods from China can supply a full spectrum of channels including supermarkets, wholesale markets and cross-border e-commerce platforms.

4.High Import Reliance, Chinese Manufacturing Maintains Core Position

India’s domestic light industrial capacity is insufficient, so daily goods such as home supplies, kitchenware and personal care products rely heavily on imports. China has long remained India’s top source country for imports of these categories, accounting for over 65% of total import volume.

Amid the "China Plus One" supply chain trend, local Indian wholesalers, brand owners and cross-border sellers are in urgent demand for cost-effective Chinese-made products, making professional exhibitions the core platform for precise matching between supply and demand.

In-depth Analysis of Five Core Product Categories

Target the High-Growth Supply & Demand Tracks

01 Home & Daily Necessities

Booming Home Renovation Trend Fuels Steady Growth in Rigid Demand

India’s home goods market reached USD 11.18 billion in 2025 and is projected to hit USD 11.91 billion in 2026, with an annual growth rate of 7.08%. Segments including household cleaning supplies, storage and soft furnishings register growth rates of 8% to 11%. The household cleaner market alone stands at USD 5.84 billion, with online sales doubling over four years.

Backed by robust R&D capabilities and flexible manufacturing systems, Chinese enterprises can rapidly launch new products with small-batch production, diversified styles and fast iteration. Covering multiple segmented sectors such as storage organizers, cleaning tools and home decorations, they are better positioned to cater to the ever-shifting consumption trends in the Indian market.

02 Kitchen & TablewareRapid

Kitchen Upgrading Creates Huge Import Shortfall

India’s kitchen and tableware market was valued at approximately USD 5.67 billion in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.5% from 2025 to 2033. The tableware segment alone hit USD 529 million. Imports account for over 22% of stainless steel cookware, ceramic tableware and glassware. Cleaning supplies and kitchen gadgets remain hot sellers, and the expansion of catering outlets further boosts procurement of commercial kitchen products.

Chinese supplies are the top pick among local wholesalers. China boasts a complete industrial chain for kitchen and tableware products. New designs of stainless steel, melamine and glass cookware are launched frequently. Suppliers can deliver large-volume cost-effective bulk orders, and customize products tailored to India’s hand-eating dining culture and small-space household living habits. The combination of high cost performance and flexible customization enables Chinese manufacturers to secure steady orders from Indian wholesalers and supermarket buyers.

03 Gifts & Office Supplies

Dual Growth Drivers: Festivals & Corporate Gifting Bring Steady Orders All Year Round

India’s office supplies market will expand from USD 9.64 billion in 2024 to USD 14.04 billion by 2033, with a high CAGR of 3.94% during 2025–2033. Steady demand comes from three core scenarios: festivals, weddings and corporate benefits. With abundant festivals throughout the year, a wedding market worth hundreds of millions and booming startups, gifts, stationery and office creative products maintain strong sales all year long.

Leveraging cost-effective pricing, abundant printed creative designs and full-category supply chain capacity, Chinese enterprises perfectly match India’s market demands for stationery and gifts featuring multi-scenario application, high repurchase rate, vibrant colors and favorable cost performance, making them the top sourcing choice for Indian importers.

04 Beauty & Personal Care

Leading All Segments in Growth with Vast Untapped Potential in Lower-Tier Markets

The beauty and personal care market in India reached USD 26.58 billion in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.8% projected for 2026–2035. Its overall market size is expected to exceed USD 74 billion by 2035. Indian consumers have developed a strong awareness of skincare, makeup and body care. The penetration rate in rural markets rises steadily by 8 percentage points each year, creating massive unmet rigid demand.

Driven by the local high-temperature climate and unique skin characteristics, sun care, whitening, moisturizing, herbal hair & body care, affordable cosmetics, fragrances and personal care items remain top-selling categories with robust market demand. However, domestic production capacity is insufficient and local product iteration is slow, making India heavily reliant on imported supplies.

China’s beauty and personal care industrial clusters boast outstanding strengths including mature formulas, comprehensive product ranges, rapid new product launches and ultra-high cost performance. They perfectly align with mainstream Indian consumer preferences for herbal natural formulas, intensive moisturizing & sun protection, and budget-friendly makeup. Chinese manufacturers stand as India’s core sourcing partner with the largest import volume, optimal market adaptability and most stable supply capacity for beauty and personal care goods.

05 Outdoor, Leisure & Sports

Emerging Blue Ocean & New Consumption Trend

India’s outdoor goods market hit USD 2.896 billion in 2025, maintaining a steady long-term annual growth rate of 6.5%–8% with strong growth resilience. The e-commerce segment for outdoor camping and adventure gear delivers the most remarkable growth, with an annual growth rate of 15%–20%. Subcategories including outdoor apparel, hiking footwear, tents, climbing equipment and car camping gear sustain robust double-digit growth ranging from 10% to 18%.

Fueled by a huge young population base, rising disposable income among the middle class, and a nationwide consumer trend of hiking, mountain camping and light outdoor activities, demand for outdoor products in India has surged across the board.
There are barely any well-established domestic manufacturers of outdoor goods in India. Premium imported products come with steep price tags, while affordable high-quality alternatives are scarce. Mass-produced outdoor gear from China can quickly fill this market gap, capture market share at low cost, and help brands rapidly build recognition and channel advantages.

Empowered by the Overseas Elf intelligent ecosystem, the exhibition integrates cutting-edge AI technologies and hardware devices throughout the entire event. Centered on an intelligent matching algorithm for buyers and sellers, paired with multi-dimensional efficiency-enhancing tools and interactive terminals such as AI smart glasses, we have built a full-link service system covering pre-show demand matching, on-site targeted negotiations and post-show business lead tracking.

04

Pre-show Platform Launched — Grab Buyers’ First Sight

The exhibition has exclusively built an online pre-show platform, shifting from passive waiting for visitors to proactively locking in potential buyers. Before the show, exhibitors can test product popularity and connect with prospective buyers in advance. Once products are uploaded, they will be displayed to our massive aggregated overseas buyer community on the platform. You can clearly view core data including trending search keywords, product page views, interested buyer profiles and active engagement metrics.

Meanwhile, an AI Agent intelligent reception system is deployed to provide round-the-clock automatic service for overseas buyers, featuring smart product recommendation, automated inquiry replies, as well as automatic lead collection and follow-up. This greatly boosts inquiry conversion efficiency. Your brand will become the first enterprise buyers notice before they step into the venue, realizing a full-cycle business growth: acquire leads pre-show, secure high-volume deals on-site, and sustain conversions post-show.

05

AI Video Drives Overseas Marketing Growth

The exhibition launches the original AI marketing system "VideoStar Engine", focusing on boosting overseas video marketing performance for Chinese foreign trade enterprises. Integrated with AI content generation, short video marketing, social media distribution, traffic placement and private domain conversion capabilities, it forms an O2O closed business loop of "targeted online exposure plus efficient on-site deal closing".

It mainly solves four major growth challenges for foreign trade companies: inability to create localized overseas content, shortage of precise traffic, difficulty in obtaining purchasing leads and low conversion efficiency. It helps enterprises quickly build digital marketing capabilities and brand influence targeting the South Asian market.

06

Global Intelligent Overseas Promotion

Hundreds of Millions of Global Exposures

The exhibition receives continuous coverage and attention from local Indian overseas media. Adopting a data-driven promotion strategy, it integrates mainstream overseas social platforms including YouTube, Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok to build an all-media online matrix for marketing campaigns.

Meanwhile, supported by local teams, we carry out offline appointments with key buyers, host press conferences and place outdoor advertisements. More than 12 types of exhibition marketing channels are operated all year round to deliver 360-degree full-scale exposure for the show, with the average exposure volume exceeding 11 million visitors per session.
